The LORD is near to those who have a broken heart, And saves such as have a contrite spirit. Psalm 34:18
For this is the prayer for all men, for Israel and Jerusalem this day.
It is not popular these days to pray for Israel. However, this is God’s chosen people and land. We are to pray for Israel, for their leaders, and for the people to know who their Messiah is, Christ Jesus, and YHWH.
YHWH is derived from the Hebrew verb “hawah” (הוה), meaning “to be” or “to exist.” It’s often interpreted as:
–“I Am Who I Am” (Exodus 3:14-15)
–“The Self-Existent One”
–“The Eternal One”
–“The Unchanging One”
This is significant as YHWH is:
–God’s personal name, emphasizing intimacy (spiritual) and relationship.
–A symbol of God’s covenant with Israel.
–A declaration of God’s sovereignty and omnipotence.
The original pronunciation of YHWH is unknown, as the vowel sounds were not written in ancient Hebrew. Some possible pronunciations include:
–Yahweh
–Jehovah
–Yehovah
It had been said that our very breath says “Yah-way” when we inhale and exhale. God is the breath of life. His spirit lives within us. Let us be obedient to pray for Israel and Jerusalem and for the salvation of all.
Let’s pray:
1 Timothy 2:1-6, 8 KJV
[1] I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; [2] for kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. [3] For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; [4] who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. [5] For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; [6] who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.
[8] I will therefore that men pray every where, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and doubting.
For Israel
Jeremiah 4:1-4 KJV
[1] If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove. [2] And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory. [3] For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns. [4] Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
For Jerusalem
Jeremiah 4:5 KJV
[5] Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities.
Jeremiah 4:14-18 KJV
[14] O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee? [15] For a voice declareth from Dan, and publisheth affliction from mount Ephraim. [16] Make ye mention to the nations; behold, publish against Jerusalem, that watchers come from a far country, and give out their voice against the cities of Judah. [17] As keepers of a field, are they against her round about; because she hath been rebellious against me, saith the LORD. [18] Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.
1 Timothy 2:1-4 KJV
